Participants and responsibilities
Principal Investigator (PI) and coordinator of Phase 2: Ana I. Moreno (ULE)

- Coordinating John Swales’ workshops and team meetings to agree on a common coding protocol.
- Exploring software options, testing NVivo and training ENEIDA coders.
- Organising NVivo workshops and ensuring consistent coding practices.
- Writing and disseminating the coding protocol among co-investigators.
- Coordinating segmentation and labelling of text units in all RA sections.
- Assisting the co-investigators until obtaining a coding scheme for each section.
- Coordinating Hilo Digital’s preparation of the sample corpora in .doc format for NVivo coding.
- Performing reliability tests in NVivo.
- Co-designing and revising the process for converting research articles from ‘pdf.’ format to ‘txt.’ format, including necessary tags.
- Writing guidelines for the ENEIDA annotators in UAM Corpus Tool and revising their work.
- Importing and annotating a subsample of research article Discussions (and/or Conclusion) sections into UAM Corpus Tool.
- Disseminating methods and preliminary cross-cultural results for the Discussion (and/or Conclusion) section.
- Coordinating bibliography exchange.
- Managing administrative tasks and acquiring necessary equipment and software.

Conducting four workshops to ensure the ENEIDA Phase 2 team acquired common interpretation and analytical skills.
Collaborating with the Principal Investigator to help refine and clarify aspects of the method of analysis down to the level of the step in research article Discussion (and/or Conclusion) sections.

- Attending John Swales’ workshops on genre analysis
- Conducting two NVivo workshops (NVivo Essentials and Further Analysis in NVivo) and providing methodological and technical guidance:
- Assisting the Principal Investigator in organising the training of co-investigators to develop coding schemes for their respective research article sections, based on the proposed coding protocol and using NVivo for collaboration (e.g., sending and opening projects, coding texts, handling new codes as they arise, and merging coded data for inter-rater reliability tests).
- Leading the group discussion on the coding process during the September 2013 ENEIDA meeting in Madrid and training co-investigators on using NVivo for collaborative research purposes.
- Providing ongoing technical guidance to the Principal Investigator online, including data export and data coding.

- Receiving training as an independent coder for the Discussion and/or Conclusion section.
- Importing sections and copying the PI analysis of a subsample of RA Discussions and/or Conclusion section in UAM Corpus Tool.

The ENEIDA research team for Phase 2
In addition to their work, the ENEIDA research team for Phase 2 also enjoyed memorable meals together during their intense and stimulating workshops. Theresa Lillis was present at the last one in Phase 2 as the external consultant for Phase 3.
